autumn invents
by dianne darby

first discovering gold
green                leaves
the blonde shoreline   ocean-whispers wasp
drowsy summers loaded effort of fruit
                                               and gathering
raw light            the low fire still
glass blown viscous accumulations of
                                               amber slip
from wounded treebark

slit gap in

               sun fester soup treat

               speak pumpkin grin

               gutter jester

               speak up

                                 summon blisterheat

               w/ plum glut accentstutter slut

brawl skitter in brick snicket brittle broken sprawl of

                                                    this death matter

               speak lewd
               slug gob
let storm fury rout gaunt ascents

& so crackle stick skin fetter whiptrick snapped

               great willow tree

in the last before fall some notions of wilderness
appeal of gold flags or flung sheets
of light moving as silk serene

                                                                        or torrential elements
               something pelted running heard           indistinct
               guzzling or muzzled

                                                                        leafy in spirit

                                                                        flung in spilt dance

                                                                        laughter fluctuating

                                                                        the concker vandal

                                                                        aggravated

                                                                        venomous floozy

                                                                        oh the vicious rodents

                                                                        mushrooms bloated and vying

the shoved drudgery of the backed up scumspumed fetid beck
over burdened w/ the usual
                                                        mithering
snouting at the boundaries of fancy
gathering from sleep and forming leaf
                                                                        edged furrily forward into

into arcs of light swung the boy-bird
                                                                        speculating on his treetop arrival

discovering blown spirals of sycamore                              wing fall

abandoned the featherless clambering birds are fearless

                                                                        mist held as a breath

                                                                        after the nights fires

                                                                        what is the future still

                                                                        beneath its net of sleep

                                                                        the silver grass

                                                                        a mirror

                                                                        of the hidden world

                                                                        there are these clues
