In 2007 The Word Hoard acquired funding from the Local Network Fund to provide a range of exciting arts workshops with children all over Kirklees. Over summer and a little way into autumn 2007, children and families will get the opportunity to have a go at different art forms, including mask making, weaving, writing and environmental art.

The workshops are all aimed at children and families, working together and having fun exploring their creative side. The project is also about raising awareness of and increasing access to sites and facilities across the district.

The first sessions took place in Huddersfield with children from the Castle Club in Newsome and Primrose Hill, which involved customising t-shirts and drawing. These were followed by 2 drop-in sessions at the Tolson Museum in August, involving work with clay tiles, and weaving a textile sampler.

Further sessions have taken place at Oakwell Hall in Birstall. On 1st September, children and their families had a go at making environmental art, and on 8th September, as part of the Heritage Open Weekend, people used a variety of materials to make something inspired by The Hall.
